Head Scratching

Two things made me scratch my head yesterday:

1. Flipping through the channels and came across some celeb cooking show. Tom Arnold is introduced (by Alan Thicke no less) as "one of America's most beloved and respected comedians." Don't lie to me like that. You're lying. Right to my face. I know it. You know it. Please, let's treat each other with dignity.

2. The top promo blurb for some crappy movie out in theaters now: "It's this year's 'Sin City.'" Uh, did anyone even see Sin City? Is being "this year's 'Sin City'" really something to brag about? Equiv = It's this year's movie that no one cared about last year!

Sneaky Jack

The White Stripes sell a song to Coke!? That sucks, right? No. Jack doesn't give up any of his existing songs. Instead writes a new one. And in the process gets giant multinational corp to spend millions of dollars so the world hears these lyrics:

one thing you'll learn you can bet / is that love is as good as it gets / and you'll get more if you give it / it's the right thing to do / and you know it / it's inside of you / so just show it / love is the truth / it's the right thing to do / in the eyes of a mother and father / in the eyes of a son and a daughter / it's everywhere / you've just got to care / love is the truth / it's the right thing to do

I like when people use The Man to spread words of love and enlightenment. That's rock 'n roll.

You know who else is rock 'n roll? Thomas Jefferson: "A little revolution now and then is a good thing."

Teemu, Kuisma, and Juha

Nominee for best first sentence in a band bio ever: The Machete

The Machete started off as a "we have to get together sometime and play some metal"-thing between Teemu, Kuisma (Mokoma) and Juha (ex-Mind Riot) in late winter / early spring 2003.

Roombas

I think we're all like Roombas. Those robot things that clean the floors and turn around whenever they hit a wall. And I think what serves as our walls are the people in our lives. You can wind up cleaning the wrong floor if you don't have the right people in your life to bounce off.
