"I saw Jules last night and he says..."

My nomination for most unintentionally hilarious blog comment thread ever: Strokes planning "Secret Shows" @ Brooklyn Vegan.

My Trip to Spain

Barcelona: Walking the streets, Gaudi architecture/museum, pretty Placa Real, cool bars like Razzmatazz, Pinya Club, Cafe Royale, underground dance party at Lola's, Goldfrapp show with superenthusiastic crowd, wonderful hosting by my pal Jason and his gal Anne and getting to meet their cool friends from 'round the globe (though I'm never gonna fly Swiss Air after the things I've seen the freaks at their Barcelona office do), guest appearance on pirate radio station hosted by Leandro (from Argentina) and his buddies (one Argentine, one French) where I was interviewed and we played some of my record and other cool tracks, the under-construction-but-still-cool Cathedral and the nighttime concert out in front with old-school Spanish dancing, the great Miro museum at Montjuic, daytrip to the monastery up in the hills at Montserrat, funicular fun, a protest march (a Spaniard will protest the opening of an envelope), and lots of cava, rioja, and tapas.

Then Leah (Jason's friend from NYC), Leandro, and I rented a car and headed to Basque country...

San Sebastian: gorgeous resort town, ocean waves, lots of rain, a marathon so all the rooms were booked, surfers, fishermen, climbing up to the castle that overlooks the town and the ocean, pintxos (mmm...so yummy) and cider (sidra), walking the oceanfront boardwalk and ending up at amazing sculptures attached to the rocks that get pounded by waves which was a nifty finish to the day.

Bilbao: Daytrip to the Guggenheim museum designed by Frank Gehry that had an awesome exhibit on "Archiscupture" -- the intersection of sculpture and architecture.

Hondarribia: Tiny fortress town with narrow cobblestone streets where I had the best meal I've ever eaten for under $20 at little place on the main strip there (artichoke hearts, ham, squid, etc.) and subchampion pintxos.

Then we headed back to Barcelona and I wandered down south for a couple of days...

Valencia: Wandering around the old town, more cathedrals and placas, stumbling into Lalola's 3 year anniversary bash with the designers, drag queens, and other assorted cool cats of Valencia, and a visit to Calatrava's amazing architecture at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de Valencia.
